Sidetracking back on agenda
Presently, sidetracking in mature wells is getting traction again as the way to increase hydrocarbon production.
We consider it feasible as it has several obvious advantages such as:
- reduced overall costs compared to drilling a new well;
- the well, pipelines and access roads are already there.
With 24 years of experience, Burova Technika has drilled dozens of sidetracks, including wells with horizontal completions. Over the past 3 years in particular, 7 sidetracks have been drilled, including 3 with horizontal completion (mostly in Ukrnafta fields).
Sidetracking projects have started in 2001 and most often we carry them out as the master contractor (from the development of project documentation, provision of materials and equipment to putting a well into production). For window cutting, various technologies were used including cutting out the hole casing section and installation of whipstock. In most cases, our engineers have installed and orientated whipstocks using MWD systems. Windows have been milled in 146-178 mm casings; horizontal section length had been up to 150 m.
Today, our team is fully equipped with the necessary materials and equipment and is ready to perform cutting edge jobs and realize new sidetracking projects
